Hey there!

My name is David Petrovych! Although I was raised in Missouri, today I am based out of the Pacific Northwest.

I turn to art to create, to heal, connect, address, remember, feel, interpret, unwind, and accept some truth about life. In all of its dark darks and light lights.

I aspire to shamelessly share my journey with the pieces I create and reflect upon on my blog.

I am a self-taught artist. Drawing influence from nature, queer experiences, a religious upbringing, and my Ukrainian roots.

During the creative process, I believe in embracing “imperfection-ism”. I intentionally strive to interpret reality with my mind’s eye; to express the unique emotional visions inspired by life.

With the ever growing presence of artificial intelligence in our spaces, I believe it to be very important to go out of our way to accept, and push, the limits of our motor skills.

Recently I have been dabbling with ceramics and learning about clay. Going to the studio to connect with ourselves and each other through the act of creation is such a gift!

Primarily working with acrylics, I love to paint! My favorite part of the process is experimenting with mixing pigments. It’s like working on a puzzle; to see how the colors interact with one another. Every one has a place and a purpose. To emphasize this, I lean into contrasts. I like to think my paint tubes are friends with each other. And while everyone shines, we are all part of the same rainbow family 🙂
